Sails Legal Terms

Legal terms associated with our brands, products, and services.

Logo usage policy

The logos for Sails, Treeline, Waterline, and all projects maintained by The Sails Company are the property of either The Sails Company or Mike McNeil. They are meant to be symbols of their respective projects, and represent the quality that the core team works hard to ensure. We make these logos available to the Sails community to spread the word about the technology they're using, but do not give permission to use the logos in ways that would mislead and/or cause people to confuse other software with the original projects.

DO use our logos or artwork:

  • To showcase a project built on Sails/Treeline
  • To promote your related meetup/talk
  • In your blog post/tutorial
  • As a component of the profile image for your Sails Meetup group
  • To cut shapes out of cookie dough

DON'T use our logos or artwork:

  • To masquerade as an official representative of Sails or any of our projects.
  • As your profile image on GitHub, npm, Twitter, Facebook, or any other platform where you are likely to be confused for our official social media presence.
  • To promote a competing project/fork
  • In any other way that is misleading or abusive to the project, its users, or its maintainers.

TL;DR if you’re not pretending to be us, you’re probably fine.

If you have any questions about logo usage, please contact a member of the Sails core team.

The correct way to refer to the Sails framework is with a lowercased ".js", just like our beloved Node.js. You can also refer to it as simply "Sails".

Correct usage:

  • Sails.js
  • Sails

Not:

  • SailsJS
  • Sails.JS
  • Sails JS
  • Licenses
  • Terms of service
    • Flagship
  • Privacy policy
  • Logo usage policy
  • Our domains
  • Our accounts

Built with Love

The Sails framework is built by a web & mobile shop in Austin, TX, with the help of our contributors. We created Sails in 2012 to assist us on Node.js projects. Naturally we open-sourced it. We hope it makes your life a little bit easier!
